Nov 2021 DVSA: Approved training centres and accredited assessors are now able to undertake the reversing test for part 3A of the test.
Merlin Supply Chain Solutions are approved providers of Driver CPC part 3A (off-road exercises) tests for heavy goods vehicles.
DRIVER CPC PART 3A TEST: OFF-ROAD EXERCISES
TEST SITES:
ISLIP: Old Furnace Site, Islip, NN14 3JW
FAREHAM: Crompton Way, Segensworth West, Fareham, Hampshire PO15 5SP
DERBY: Unit 242, Denby Hall Business Park, Hall Rd, Ripley DE5 8JX
Vehicle length: The site can test vehicles of any length.
Documents to take to your test:
You must bring with you, your theory test pass certificate (If you were required to take a theory test)
A GB photo card driving licence, or
A Northern Ireland photo card driving licence and paper counterpart, or
an EU photo card driving licence (and paper counterpart, if you have one).
If you do not have a photo card driving licence, bring your paper licence along with your valid passport.
If the organisation that runs your training is also your test provider, your assessor must not have been involved in your training.
The test includes:
An ‘S’ shaped reverse into a bay.
Showing the uncoupling and recoupling procedure if you’re taking a test with a trailer.
Test results:
After your test, your assessor / coach will tell you if you have passed or failed your test and explain in detail how you performed.
DRIVER CPC PART 3A TEST: ON-ROAD DRIVING
You must have passed the Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) part 1 theory test before you can book the Driver CPC part 3B test.
You must have passed the Driver CPC part 3A (off-road exercises) test before you can take the part 3B test.
The test includes:
Vehicle safety questions
1 hour of practical road driving
Practical road driving:
Use the vehicle controls
Move away at an angle, uphill and downhill
Do a controlled stop
Use the mirrors
Give appropriate signals
Show awareness and anticipation of other road users’ intentions
Manage your progress and control your vehicle speed
Deal with hazards
Select a safe place to stop
There will also be 10 minutes of independent driving, designed to test your ability to drive safely while making independent decisions.
